Atypical antipsychotics transformed the treatment of long term conditions in psychiatry, most notably schizophrenia. These novel agents when introduced decades ago are still a standard of care today and have been formulated as daily tablets and depot injections. The range of conditions and the variability of patients presenting has led to a wide array of presentations being made available. Zyprexa®, Seroquel®, Zypadhera® are well known to those supporting patients in psychiatric settings, helping to reduce symptoms and aiding integration of patients into communities as well as assisting in the specific management of some symptoms such as agitation in the elderly.
Status epilepsy requires neurologists to support patients in many cases throughout their lives cope with intermittent brain seizures. Whilst most usually short and transient , brain seizures cause major disruption to patients lives. Maintaining freedom from seizures often requires the use of several medicines together in customised treatments for each patient. Rivotril® remains an established treatment used across the CNS community in many patients, where it demonstrates benefits in helping patients remain seizure free or with reduced frequency and severity.
